Celebration, 2024.

wax, flame, wick, clay.

Completed and installed in December of 2024.

Celebration recontextualizes the ritual of wishing upon birthday candles into a commemorative installation to honor aging. The piece’s form outlines a body reaching out from the fetal position, a literalization of one mortal existence tearing through time. The wax of wishes made dripping and pooling over a human imprint invokes the shifting natures of identity and desire, hot and irrevocable, melting from one form into another, leaving behind some glorious mess of life.

Installed at The Living Gallery in Brooklyn, NY as part of the exhibition,
One Night Only.
