gathering
(about three year’s worth of looking down and picking things up), 2024.
ephemera, wire, chain.
Completed and installed in October of 2024.
gathering… is a mobile sculpture that encourages noticing. This piece is the first expression of an ongoing practice of looking down and picking things up. Each token represents an instance of curiosity and realization for the artist. Found on the sidewalk or the seashore, man made or organic, their histories and functions fall secondary to their visual-sensual worth and material implications of childhood, amusement, and class signification. Left behind by strangers, weathered by the elements, this work is made in incidental collaboration with the city as it lives.
Installed as part of the biennial staff show at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
